A precision pocket aneroid barometer manufactured by R. Fuess in 1939, complete with its original leather carrying case, has been added to the collection.
A new addition to the collection is a , manufactured in 1939 by the renowned German scientific instrument maker of Berlin-Steglitz.
Measuring just 70 mm in diameter, this compact instrument features a sophisticated, temperature-compensated mechanism with two aneroid capsules and a finely graduated scale ranging from 560 to 790 mmHg. Its lightweight aluminium alloy case and original protective leather carrying case reflect a design intended for practical use in the field.
Instruments of this type were suitable for meteorological observations, surveying, and scientific expeditions, as well as potential military applications. Although this example dates from the beginning of the Second World War, its military provenance remains unconfirmed.
The barometer is particularly interesting for its combination of pocket-sized portability, precision engineering, and excellent preservation, offering a fine example of German instrument-making in the late 1930s.
