Short & Mason Cyclo-Stormograph Joins the Collection
A Short & Mason weather-forecasting barograph of around 1930, with a concealed vacuum chamber, has been added to the collection.
The collection has acquired a , made in London around 1930. The instrument carries no maker's name on the case and was probably made to order for another firm; a surviving chart points to the Liverpool chronometer makers J. Sewill Ltd. Its mechanism follows 1904 patent, with the aneroid capsule hidden beneath the base plate inside the oak case. The clock is by Rotherham & Sons of Coventry. A special lettered chart and a legend plaque dated 1930 allow the weather to be forecast from the pressure reading and its trend.
