French Mahogany Aneroid by Dubois & Casse Joins the Collection
A large French aneroid barometer of around 1880, set in a massive turned mahogany surround, has been added to the collection.
The was made around 1880 by the Parisian firm for the English-speaking market. A complete brass barometer is mounted into a heavy drum-shaped surround turned from solid mahogany. Its silvered dial combines an engine-turned guilloché centre, a scale in inches of mercury with English weather indications, and two curved thermometers: spirit on the Réaumur and Centigrade scales, mercury on the Fahrenheit scale.
