A Zenith Barograph Joins the Collection
A rare Zenith cabinet barograph has joined the collection alongside a newly expanded history of the celebrated Swiss manufacture.
A remarkable Zenith Cabinet Barograph, c. 1935–1955, has been added to the collection. Barograph No. 503 combines a five-capsule aneroid mechanism with a beautifully constructed weekly clockwork drum, all housed within a compact cabinet case featuring a black cast-iron base and a fully glazed, bevelled enclosure in a brass frame.
The instrument is particularly fascinating for the unmistakable influence of Zenith’s watchmaking tradition. Its finely executed mechanism, gilt-brass construction, watchmaker-style linkages and glazed inspection window revealing part of the clockwork transform a functional meteorological recorder into a showcase of precision mechanics.
Alongside this new addition, the history of Zenith has been significantly expanded, providing broader context for the company’s development, its watchmaking heritage, and its involvement in precision instruments beyond watches. Together, the new research and Barograph No. 503 illustrate an intriguing meeting of Swiss watchmaking and meteorological instrumentation.
