Pocket barometer is a portable version of the aneroid (mercury-free) barometer, allowing the measurement of atmospheric pressure and calculation of altitude with the help of an additional altitude scale integrated into a rotating bezel. The mechanism of this barometer is based on a miniature Vidie capsule, whose wall deformation under atmospheric pressure is transmitted to the hand either through a lever mechanism or with the use of a rack-and-pinion system, known as the conventional continental cantilever-type movement.
