More than ten new historical documents, advertisements, postcards, letters and books have been added to the Ephemera section.
A substantial group of new material has been added to the section, further expanding the documentary history surrounding barometers, meteorological instruments and their makers.
Among the new additions are a 1922 share certificate of Établissements Jules Richard, a 1930 letter from Möller, Oehmichen & Co. (MOCO), commercial material from H. Morin, several period advertisements by Negretti & Zambra, and correspondence connected with the identification of a historical Negretti & Zambra barometer in the Netherlands in 1974.
The update also includes a group of humorous novelty “barometer” postcards featuring mule, donkey, cow and rope weather indicators, as well as historical books such as Eugène Bourdon’s facsimile notebook Manomètres, Baromètres et autres instruments à tubes métalliques, Negretti & Zambra’s A Story of Temperature Measurement, and the 1862 Dutch edition of Adolphe Ganot’s popular physics textbook.
Together, these additions illustrate the many different ways weather instruments appeared beyond the instruments themselves — in advertising, trade, correspondence, education, popular culture and corporate history.
