Cobalt barometer - a plaster model of the Amphitheater in Nîmes from France, with its upper part coated in cobalt solution. Traditionally, the cobalt surface of such a barometer would signal the weather by changing color: it remained blue in good weather, turned pink in variable conditions, and shifted to gray when snow or a cold front was imminent.
