Ota Instrument Manufacturing Co.
Ota Instrument Manufacturing Co., Ltd. is a Japanese company founded in 1919 (the eighth year of the Taisho era). At the time of its founding, the company specialized in the production of glass thermometers, but over time, its activities expanded significantly. From the late Taisho era to World War II, influenced by the Great Kanto Earthquake and military requests, the company began manufacturing equipment for meteorological observations on land, at sea, and in the upper layers of the atmosphere.
After World War II, the company focused on producing ground-based meteorological instruments, including anemometers, barometers, hygrometers, thermometers, and other measuring devices. The company's products established a reputation for reliability and high accuracy, meeting the stringent standards of the Japan Meteorological Agency. Among its products were self-recording barometers, which it had been manufacturing and selling even before the war.
The company offered competitive prices for its instruments, although they remained expensive for the time. For example, a barometer with an internal inspection certificate cost 80 yen, while one with a certificate from the Central Meteorological Observatory cost 90 yen, equivalent to the price of 2–3 gold pocket watches.
Ota also competed with foreign manufacturers such as Richard and the German company Lufft, offering domestic products that were in demand. Since 1943, the company has been known as Ota Keiki Seisakusho Co., Ltd., headquartered in Tokyo, specializing in the production of meteorological equipment. The company name translates to "Ota Measuring Instruments Factory."
The company views meteorological instruments as an "interface between nature and humans" and has developed and provided high-precision products for many years using advanced technologies. The product range includes anemometers, rain gauges, rain sensors, thermometers, hygrometers, barometers, solar sensors, and other meteorological instruments.
The products of Ota Keiki Seisakusho Co., Ltd. are used in various fields, including transportation, construction, research, disaster prevention, and aviation. The company adheres to strict quality standards that meet national standards and the requirements of the Japan Meteorological Agency, ensuring high accuracy and reliability of its instruments even in harsh operating conditions.
Throughout its history, Ota Keiki has demonstrated a commitment to innovation and quality, maintaining a high level of precision in its instruments. Today, the company continues its activities by developing and manufacturing meteorological equipment used in various industries, including research, disaster prevention, aviation, and transportation.
