D. Sala & Zoon was a Dutch company founded in 1785 in Leiden by master barometer maker Dominicus Sala.
Dominicus Sala, originally from Italy, moved to London, where he worked from 1751 to 1800, crafting high-quality barometers and thermometers.
In the late 18th century, he relocated to Leiden, the Netherlands, where he continued his work.
The company D. Sala & Zoon specialized in the production of high-quality barometers, thermometers, and other scientific instruments. Their products were known for their precision and exquisite design, often made of mahogany and adorned with decorative elements.
Sala’s barometers were highly popular among collectors and connoisseurs of scientific instruments.
In 1823, the company expanded its activities by adding a frame manufacturing workshop, broadening its product range.
The company remained a family business, passed down from father to son, and continued its operations until 1949 when it was registered in The Hague.
Today, the products of D. Sala & Zoon are highly valued at auctions and are part of museum collections, showcasing the craftsmanship and legacy of the company.
