Bert Bolle

Bert Bolle was a Dutch collector, writer, and barometer expert, known for creating the world’s largest water barometer and founding the Barometer Museum in Maartensdijk, the Netherlands. This barometer became the central exhibit of the museum, which Bolle and his wife Etna opened in 1987 in their 18th-century home, “Rustenhoven,” in Maartensdijk. The museum operated until 1999 and attracted the attention of both specialists and the general public.

Bert Bolle was not only a collector but also a skilled restorer. The museum housed a workshop where barometers could be repaired. Additionally, the museum featured a shop offering a wide range of meteorological instruments, both antique and modern, crafted by a variety of makers.

Bert Bolle authored several books on barometers, including Barometers (1978) and Barometers in Beeld (1983), which became valuable resources for collectors and enthusiasts. Bert Bolle passed away in 2016, but his work continues to inspire and educate barometer enthusiasts around the world.
