EXCELLENT
A mid-20th-century replica of a Georgian stick barometer, which combines refined design with precise measurements. This barometer, typical of stick models, is made of mahogany, whose warm texture is complemented by delicate satinwood inlays running along the edges of the body. These inlays give the barometer a sophisticated appearance, creating a contrast with the deep tones of the main material. Particularly notable is the herringbone-patterned veneer on the front of the case, highlighting the high level of craftsmanship.
The 97-centimeter tall barometer case is fitted with a glass door on brass hinges, allowing the user to easily observe the instrument’s readings and interact with the scale. A 'broken' pediment with a brass finial gives the barometer a classic finish, and a turned spherical cap protects the crucial element — the mercury reservoir, located in the lower part of the instrument.
The register plates, made of silver-plated brass, are equipped with a finely engraved scale in London inches of mercury and textual weather indicators. For more accurate pressure measurements, a sliding vernier is used, allowing for high-precision tracking of weather changes.
To the left of the main barometer scale is a small spirit thermometer with a Fahrenheit scale. This element is accompanied by textual temperature indications.
The barometer’s elegance is further enhanced by the light green velvet cloth used as a backdrop for the register plates. This decorative choice emphasizes the luxury and attention to detail characteristic of items from that era.
In the upper part of the case, behind glass, the mercury-filled glass tube is visible, ending with a decorative brass cap. The lower part of this tube, hidden behind a wooden cover, leads to a miniature bottle-shaped reservoir, ensuring the smooth operation of the barometer.
